Biography of Peter Bold |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Peter Bold COOPER FROM BROOK STREET Joseph was a local lad who was born in St Helens in April 1858. . His father, Peter, was a shoemaker. In 1881 Peter lived with his family at 21 Brook Street, St. Helens. At the time Peter was employed as a Cooper. Their house was in the midst of the densely populated area of terraced housing close to the centre of the town. This was in a vibrant neighbourhood where rugby football and athletics were the prevalent pastimes for young men. Peter was a forward who is recorded as playing just one match for the St. Helens Rangers first team. This was against the St. Helens and District team, a side made up from different clubs in the area. The Saints went down to defeat that day. This is his only recorded first team match but because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. Peter married Sarah Renshaw on May the 14th, 1883 at St Peter’s Church in Parr.. His new wife was the daughter of a boatman. Peter sadly died in St. Helens in March 1886 at the age of 27. |
