Biography of Adam McLaughlin |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Adam McLaughlin ONE OF THREE BROTHERLY SAINTS Adam was a local lad who was born in St Helens in 1858. He was one of three brothers who played for the Saints in the 1880s alongside his siblings John Joseph and Daniel. His father, John, was a Railway Pass Guard who sadly died when Adam was a young boy. His only recorded match was against Sutton Seconds on the 7th of November 1881. It was a great away victory made even better because he was joined on the team by his brother Joseph who played on the wing. Adam probably played further games for the Saints but we have a far from complete record of those early years. He married Elizabeth Lavin in 1889 and in the 1891 Census he was recorded as living at 43 Campbell Street in the town and working as a silverer in a glass factory. By 1911 he had become a glass inspector and his family had expanded to include four children. Adam lived a long life in St. Helens and survived a call up to be involved in World War One. He died in the town at the age of 89 in January 1948. |
