Biography of Albert Anders |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Albert Edward Anders SOLICITOR’S CLERK Albert was born in St. Helens on the 10th of March 1863. His father John was an engine fitter and the family lived at 51 Rigby Street, St. Helens 1881. Their house was in the midst of the densely populated area of terraced housing close to the centre of the town. This was in a vibrant neighbourhood where rugby football and athletics were the prevalent pastimes for young men. Albert made his debut for the St. Helens Rangers in the away fixture against Sutton A team on the 7th of November 1881. The Saints prevailed that day. His playing position was at half back. In all he is recorded as playing in just 1 match for the St. Helens first team but because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. Albert married Emily Kate Crompton in Bolton on the 11th of July 1894. They went on to have two children, Frank and Doris. The 1911 Census shows that Albert was working as an estate agent as well as acting as a solicitor. The family emigrated to Canada and settled in Vancouver. Albert died in Burnaby, British Colombia on the 17th of September 1947 at the age of 84. |
