Biography of Samuel Stanley |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Samuel Stanley FRODSHAM LAD Samuel was born in Frodsham, Cheshire in the summer of 1861. His father, James, was a labourer in a soapery and the family resided at Church Street in Frodsham. In the late 1870s James moved to live in Parr, St. Helens. In 1881 he was a boarder at 121 Merton Bank Road, Parr, St. Helens and working as a chemical labourer. His only recorded match was for the St. Helens Rangers on the 5th of February 1881 against St.Helens Recs Reserves. The Rangers lost that home match played at Ralph Smith’s paddock. Samuel played in the forwards and although this is his only recorded first team match the paucity of results and team sheets from that period means that the number of appearances was likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. He married Anna Williams in St. Helens on the 19th of December 1881. Anna was also from Frodsham and the couple went on to have 4 children. The family settled down to live at 12 Critchley Street in St. Helens and Samuel continued to labour in chemical works. Samuel died in St. Helens in July 1908 at the age of just 45. |
