His father, Richard, was a plasterer. Their house was in a vibrant neighbourhood where rugby football and athletics were the prevalent pastimes for young men. He made his debut for St Helens Rangers on the 20th of November 1880 against St Helens Recs Reserves. The Rangers were triumphant that day. His final recorded first team appearance was against Widnes True Blues on the 25th of February 1882. On this occasion the True Blues were triumphant. In all Peter recorded three first team appearances but because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. He remained in that area for the rest of his life. In 1911 he was residing at 118 Albion Street, St. Helens and working as a bottle maker. By then he had married Margaret Ellen Whittaker in January 1894 and they were raising a family of six sons. Peter died in his hometown in January 1937 at the age of 75. |
