Biography of Frederick Bridget |
---|
HERITAGE NO : ROVING ACCOUNTANT Frederick was born in Manchester in 1850. His father, Alfred, was born in Derby and worked as a cashier. Frederick was to follow a similar profession initially. At the time a few of the St. Helens RFC players were not resident in the town but resided in greener areas like Huyton, Litherland or in Frederick’s case Kirkdale. In 1871 his address was 24 North Shore, Kirkdale and he was listed as working as a clerk. Quite a few of the ‘Originals’ worked in similar occupations and a couple of players such as Cannington and DE Jones lived in those neighbourhoods. His connection with the rugby and St. Helens would have been initiated through hiss social and business circles. We know that he played against Waterloo A team on the 4th of March 1876. Although this is his only recored match; the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. Incidentally that particular game was played close to his abode which could have been a factor in his selection for the Saints. By 1881 Frederick had relocated to Chorlton where he married Sarah Emma Nickson. He had broadened his employment opportunities by then, adding Estate Agency to his accountancy work. By 1911, he was living in Birkenhead and boarding at 18 Warrington Street in that town. It would appear that Frederick had decided to stay in Birkenhead for that place is recorded as his place of death in January 1921 at the age of 70. |
