Biography of James Williams |
---|
HERITAGE NO : James Williams IRON MAN James was born in St. Helens in 1854. As a child he lived at Cottage Street in St. Helens. He was a forward who was recorded as playing one match for the Saints on the 3rd of February 1877 against Cheetham. The Manchester team won that day. Our records are somewhat limited because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period. His number of appearances was likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. He married Ann but there are no records of any children. By 1881 he was living in Widnes and operating an iron moulding business. Eventually he opened a shop on the premises at 30 Warrington Road in Widnes. James later moved across town to live at 4 Deacon Road. He died in Widnes in October 1929 at the age of 76. |
