Biography of Philip Pugh |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Philip Pugh WOOD TURNER Philip was born in St Helens in November 1851. His father, Richard, was a blacksmith. He is recorded as playing in just one match for the Originals. This took place on the 8th of March 1874 in an away fixture against Waterloo. The Saints were dominant that day and gained a victory. Philip played in the forwards. As we have incomplete records of that record it is highly probable, given his winning record, that Philip would have featured in other games for the Saints. He was a wood turner by trade and for a good while he operated in Bury. In 1881 he was living at Parliament in that town. He married Mary and they had a son named William. Philip did return to live and work in St. Helens. He set up a wood turning business and employed several workers. He died in St. Helens in September 1914 at the age of 62. |
