MATCH REPORT : CHORLTON V ST. HELENS 6 NOVEMBER 1886 The ground was in a wretched state and against any good play. The game was principally a forward one. Chorlton were no match for the Saints who had much of their own way. That said St. Helens only managed to score one try in the first half. In the second half St. Helens obtained two further tries from Harry Varley and James Bassnett. Charles Anders kick a goal from one of the tries.
