BIOGRAPHY

HERITAGE NO : 1240
The 28-year-old won the NRL Dally M award in 2012 and a Grand Final with Cronulla Sharks in 2016. Ben played 168 games, scoring 99 tries, in the NRL. He started his career at the North Devils, Mackay, in Queensland before signing with the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2007. He made his representative debut for the Indigenous All Stars in 2012, his first of five appearances and moved to Brisbane Broncos in 2014, scoring eight tries in 25 games. Barba then joined Cronulla Sharks and in 2016 won the Grand Final after an outstanding season.

Ben made five appearances for the Saints at the conclusion of the 2017 season and although it took time for him to settle, he later began to show great promise for the future in the full-back spot.

The 2018 season proved to be an absolute treat of fast, attacking rugby. At the helm of our play was Ben Barba. He was instrumental in many of our attacking plays, with his unstoppable broken field running and his ability to join in the threequarter line with deadly effect. At the end of the campaign the Saints collected the League Leaders Shield and reached the semi-final stage of the Challenge Cup and the Grand Final series. Ben was voted as the Man of Steel for 2018 which came as no surprise. He was the outstanding attacking player in the competition by far.

The glory, however, was tinged with disappointment as Ben cut short his stay in the U.K. to sign up with the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL for 2019. He will always be remembered for his superb attacking qualities. His hat-trick in the Challenge Cup against Castleford Tigers remains a real highlight for anyone privileged to see it.

Mike Appleton, Dave Dooley and SHS
