 HERITAGE NO : 437 Born in Collins Green at the turn of the 20th century, front-rower James began his professional rugby career with Warrington, making just 5 appearances from 1923-27. He then moved on to Wigan Highfield in January 1929 and later moved to Knowsley Road. He featured heavily in the 1935-6 season playing in some 19 matches. He powered his way over for a try in the 11-0 victory in the away league match against Rochdale Hornets in October 1935. James played in just one more game at the start of the following season in the heavy loss away at Salford. In 1921 James was living in Crossley Road, Thatto Heath, St. Helens with his parents, grandmother and sister. His father, also named James, was a pusher off at the Pilkington Bros Glass Works. Later a resident in Clay Lane, Burtonwood when he joined the Saints, he passed away in Burtonwood in January 1966, aged 65.Dave Dooley [with special help from Gary Slater] | ||||
