 HERITAGE NO : 263 Jim Turner played his only game for the first team in the narrow away league victory over Widnes by 7 points to 5 on the 15th March 1919. He played on the right wing in this match. Yet again we are greatly indebted to Widnes RL historian, Steve Fox, for further details regarding Jim. He was in fact born in India but moved back to Widnes as an infant. We can presume his father was in the military in India. Although he played rugby league Jim became more famous as a boxer and was very successful in that sport. He boxed for the Army and later managed several well known local boxers. Indeed he was on the committee of the British Boxing Board of Control at on point. Jim moved to Blackpool in later life. | ||||
