 HERITAGE NO : 846 Don Stillwell was a utility forward who could play either in the second row or at prop forward. He played 12 matches for the Saints between December 1967 and April 1972. Don came on as a substitute as Saints defeated New Zealand by 18 points to 8 in September 1972. Don lived was very well travelled as well as loving his rugby. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan where his father was working with the British Military shortly before India became independent and Pakistan became a separate country. His parents originated from St Helens and moved from Lancashire to India in the 1930s. On return his family sailed to England from Karachi and arrived in Liverpool in April 1954. At some point Don moved to Gloucester where he married his wife Valerie in 1964. Soon after Don moved to St Helens and he settled in the area behind the town hall. When his playing days were over Don and Valerie moved to Canada and eventually settled in Cambridge, Ontario. Sadly, Don passed away at a relatively young age.Dave Dooley | ||||
