 HERITAGE NO : 318 William Stanton by Alex Service and Dave Dooley Signed on 17th October 1923, William's address in the Rugby League Signing on Registers is given as Pemberton, Wigan. His one and only appearance for the St.Helens First team was against Swinton, an away fixture, on 3rd November 1923, when the visitors were overcome by 34-6. The pack that afternoon was Atkin, Lightfoot, Melling [another player from the Wigan area], Stanton, Heath and Shaw. Outside rugby we know that William was a Coal Hewer.
