 HERITAGE NO : 297 Edward Perkins by Alex Service According to the Rugby League Registers, Edward lived in Wigan [Wallgate], yet information about him signing for the Saints, on 29th November 1921 is sparse. He was a right winger, who made his debut in front of over 20,000 fans at Knowsley Road against Wigan on Boxing Day 1921. The threequarter line that day had a marvellous ring to it: Perkins, McLoughlin, Ashburner and Gormley. Edward played in just five matches for the Saints, his last a 6-3 victory at home to Widnes on 28th January 1922. Whatever happened to him after that, we do not know. It could well be that he is related to a fellow called Lewis Perkins, who played on the wing for Wigan in 1925-26, but we cannot be sure. Edward was a General Labourer who was living in Back Wallgate, Wigan in 1939. His death is registered in Ince in June 1972 at the age of 75.
