Biography of Alfred Peacock |
---|
HERITAGE NO : 91 Alfred Peacock was a winger who made his debut against Wigan in the first round of the Border Towns Cup in November 1900. The Saints won that potentially challenging away fixture against their arch rivals by seven points to nil. He made three further appearances for the Saints in the same month. So what happened to Alfred? Perhaps this quote from the Manchester Courier on 31st December 1900, after a Saints versus Widnes match at Knowsley Road can give us a clue: "They [Widnes] gradually cleared to centre, whence Rispan broke away grandly to Peacock, who scored." Perhaps a transfer to the Chemics had taken place. Alfred lived in several towns throughout his life but never strayed too far from the River Mersey. In 1911, he lived in Higher Hillgate, Stockport. His death is recorded in Salford in 1932 aged 58. Dave Dooley |
