 HERITAGE NO : 299 Norman Parkinson by Alex Service Born in Poolstock, Wigan on 25th January 1900, Norman Parkinson was one of 14 children and he signed for St.Helens on 26th September 1921. A forceful front-rower, he made his debut for the First Team at Oldham on 11th February 1922. Unfortunately, Saints were well-beaten that afternoon by 8-34. The pack was Parkinson, Jones, Cross, Cawley, Heaton and Farrimond. Norman played 13 matches for the club and scored 3 tries. His last was against Wigan Highfield on 9th December 1922, which the Saints also lost by 3-15. His brother, Philip played full-back for the club at the same time. We are grateful to Wendy and Clayton Barrell for the following information regarding Norman: "Norm migrated to Australia in 1928 and coached in Wellington NSW for a season. He eventually settled in Rozelle in Sydney's inner west." Norman worked mostly as a Labourer. We have him living in Evans Street, Rozelle, Balmain, Sydney. He died in Sydney on the June 27th 1988 at the age of 88. | ||||
