 HERITAGE NO : 275 Thomas Middlehurst by Alex Service Essentially a right wing threequarter, Thomas lived in Peter Street and made six First Team appearances for the club, scoring a try. Signed at the end of July, 1920, Thomas made his debut [his solitary appearance of the season] against Broughton Rangers at Knowsley Road on 28th August 1920, when the Saints lost 11-13. The last of his six matches for the club was at home to local rivals St. Helens Recs on Christmas Day 1922, when Thomas appeared in the centre [the other centre was future stand-off sensation Les Fairclough]. By 24th March, 1923, he had joined Widnes and went on to play 6 matches for the Chemics scoring two tries in the process. Tommy worked as a sewer pipe labourer. In 1939, he lived in Hamblett Close, St Helens. His death is recorded in Prescot in September 1965 at the age of 67. If anyone has any further information, we would be glad to hear from you. |
