Biography of William Mercer



HERITAGE NO : 77
William played 46 matches for the Saints from April 1899 to January 1908. In what were quite difficult times for the club, he was a tough forward who scored his only try against Rochdale Hornets. William also kicked two goals, one against Hunslet and one against Brighouse Rangers. Remarkably, William appeared to have lived all of his life in Lowe Street, St Helens. The sheet glass gatherer died in St Helens in 1945 at the age of 69.
