Jack played his only game for the first team in the heavy away league defeat by Barrow by 41 points to 5 on the 29th December 1923. He lived in Greenfield Road in the early twentieth century and his father owned a bicycle shop. Jack played on the right wing in this match. In 1939 he was living in Shadewood Crescent, Runcorn and operating as an Inspector for the Coop Insurance. He died back in his hometown in December 1964, aged 66. His son Ian remarked that his father stopped playing because when he was injured he had no income and could not afford to continue.

Like his father, who brought the first car to St. Helens, Jack was in the motor trade. McLean and Appleton was for a long time a notable car showrooms on Prescot Road, St Helens. Ian also mentioned that Jack also played for the 'Recreationals' (St Helens Recs).
