 HERITAGE NO : 1122 Steve Maden by Dave Dooley: Steve Maden came highly rated from Warrington in winter 2002, and made his debut against the New Zealand tourists on 25th October 2002 at Knowsley Road. During his time at Warrington, Maden had courted attention from several big clubs, but was plagued by injury, which cost him a place inthe England U18 touring party to Australia. After being released by new Wolves coach Paul Cullen, Maden was snapped up within days by St Helens coach Ian Millward. Despite his early promise at Warrington, Maden was never given his chance to shine at St Helens. He bagged a try in the cross-code game against Sale Sharks at the beginning of the 2003 season, and showed further potential with a well-taken try against Batley Bulldogs in the Challenge Cup 5th Round at Knowsley Road. Ultimately, however, it was not to be, and he never really got his chance at first team level. Indeed, for a player with such an impressive pedigree, even at the tender age of 20, for the club, and the player, it is really a case of what might have been. After a frustrating season, Saints allowed Steve Maden to move to Leigh Centurions, where he will attempt to recover from a painfully disappointing season at Knowsley Road.
