Biography of Joseph Lightfoot

HERITAGE NO : 317
Joseph Lightfoot by Alex Service

Joseph Lightfoot lived in West Street, Thatto Heath, near to the British Lion public house. He made 6 First Team appearances for the club, as a hooker, although First Team opportunities were limited as a result of competition from Harold Heaton and the legendary Albert Simm. He played his last game against Widnes, which opened the 1925-26 campaign at Knowsley Road. Saints lost 6-23 and the next Saints hooker brought in to First Team action was Bill Brennan, another local product, from Hardy Street. In 1939, Joseph was living in Greenfield Road, St Helens and working as a Colliery Packer below ground. He died in St Helens in June 1972 aged 70.
