 HERITAGE NO : 265 Billy Lavin by Alex Service It is believed that Billy came from the Pocket Nook area and played for the Saints in the early post war years in 1919 and 1920, essentially as a centre, with the occasional game at half-back. His junior club could well have been the famous Pocket Nook Shamrocks and he played his first Team football with another Pocket Nook product Tommy Gormley in the other centre berth. Charlie Crooks, soon to become the established full-back, was also a centre at this early stage in his career. In 1939 Billy was living in Hunter Street, St Helens. He worked variously as a Glass Maker and as a General Labourer. Billy passed away in his hometown aged 72 in February 1966.
