 HERITAGE NO : 225 Harry Kelly by Alex Service A resident of Devon Street, it is presumed that Harry was born and bred in St. Helens. He was basically a left winger, but could also play on the right if required. Not to be confused with Arthur Kelly, the New Zealand half-back, Harry made his debut in the league match against Rochdale Hornets at Knowsley Road on 21st December 1912, which the Saints lost 5-6. Billy Belshaw was his centre that day. He made 14 appearances for the First Team, scoring four tries and his last appearance was in a War Emergency League fixture at home to Widnes on 6th October 1917. The Saints won 9-3. Harry was still living in Devon Street, St Helens in 1939. The glass cutter died in St Helens in March 1963 at the age of 72. His son went on to play in the threequarters for St Helens Recs in the early 1930s. | ||||
