 HERITAGE NO : 177 Fred Johnson by Alex Service A local lad, Fred Johnson was a strong-running forward who made his debut for the Saints in the home game against Barrow on 3rd October 1908. St.Helens won 26-5 and Fred went on to play a total of 6 appearances and score one try for the club. His last match was at Broughton, on 4th September 1909, when the visitors won 10-7. He was living in Windleshaw Road, St Helens in 1901. We believe that he died at the young age of 22 in November 1910. We do not have much information about this particular player as such and therefore any additional insights into his rugby career would be most welcome. |
