Biography of John Jackson

HERITAGE NO : 467
John Jackson by Alex Service

John Jackson was a Welsh second-rower who was signed by the Saints at the start of the 1937-38 season. He was 21 years of age and played one match in the First Team, against Bramley in an 18-9 success at Knowsley Road. John played in the number 12 jersey that day and Traveller, the correspondent in the St.Helens Newspaper was reasonably impressed with the six foot and 13 stone forward: I would like to see him in further trials, because, in him, I think the Saints have a diamond in the rough.
Alas, it was the only match played by Jackson. What happened to him? Did he return to Wales and Rugby Union? We do know that he died in Haverfordwest in March 1958, aged 43. If you have any further information about him, we would like to hear from you.
