Biography of Norman Hesketh



HERITAGE NO : 433
Norman was a stand off or centre who played for the Saints in two spells in the 1930s. Originally signed from Broughton Rangers, the Wiganer was a skilful player who scored 9 tries for the Saints including a brace in the 32 points to 3 whipping of Bramley. He was signed after a great debut against Oldham in April 1934. After a loan spell at Leigh [Heritage Number 438] he returned to the club in August 1938 for two games against Leigh and Warrington, before retiring.

In 1921 Norman was living in Kendrick Street, Wigan. He lived with his father, Richard a Coke Fitter at the Kirklees Iron Works in Ince, mother Rachel two brothers and two sisters. He worked as a Capstan Lathe Hand in an Aircraft Factory in 1939 and was living in Wallace Lane, Wigan. He died in Wigan in March 1982, aged 71.
