Biography of Charlie Glover



HERITAGE NO : 415
This versatile back played over 50 matches for the Saints in the early to mid nineteen thirties. He made a very impressive start with the Saints and in only his second match he scored two tries and kicked three goals as a part of a 28 points to nil victory over Bradford Northern. Initially Charlie was a stand off but graduated to the centre and scrum half berths later in his career. He scored a total of 14 tries and kicked 24 goals in a period when the great Saints Championship team was breaking up due to financial pressures. The talented back returned to the Saints for a one-off appearance against Dewsbury in January 1942. Charlie died in St Helens in May 1987, aged 75.
