Peter had played rugby union for Bath and Dorset and Wiltshire county side before he signed for Oldham in August 1953, but his stay at Watersheddings was relatively short-lived. He played only seven matches either in the centre or on the wing before leaving for Halifax in 1954. Peter also played just a handful of games for the Thrum Hall side before moving on to the Blackpool Borough club and onwards to St. Helens where he was to finally make his mark in rugby league. He was signed as cover for regular goal-kicker Austin Rhodes and he became a regular member of the First Team during the season that the Saints topped the table, scoring just over 1,000 points. They finished as Champions, with Peter kicking 100 goals before Christmas. He played full-back in the team that lost to Oldham in the Lancashire Cup final in 1958, but didn’t play in the Championship final, when Austin Rhodes once again became available. Although he left the Saints at the end of the 1958-59 season, he will always be remembered as one of the most reliable and prodigious place-kickers ever seen at Knowsley Road.

We last heard of Peter living in Harp Hill, Cheltenham in the 1960s. Peter later moved to Chichester, West Sussex where he died in November 2007 aged 78.
