 HERITAGE NO : 647 Vincent Dilorenzo by Dave Dooley: A reliable hooker, Dilorenzo was at the tail end of his career when he signed for the Saints in October 1946, after 13 years with Bradford Northern. He began with Warrington, his home-town team, in 1931. After his playing days were over, he became a successful Trainer with Orford Tannery, making them into one of the most powerful junior teams in Lancashire. Vincent played nine matches in the 1946/7 season. His debut match was in the 12 points to 7 home victory over Workington Town at Knowsley Road on the 12th of October 1946. He did not play again for the first team again until his last match on 26th of February 1949 when the Saints lost narrowly to Swinton by 11 points to 8 in a home league match. Interestingly, in that campaign Saints had no fewer than six players appear in the number nine jersey (H Fishwick, Roberts, Blakemore, Battersby, Dutton and Dilorenzo!). In later years Vincent undertook more coaching and scouting for the Warrington club. He even trained the 1959 Australian Touring Team. He died in February 1989, aged 77. |
