Biography of Ian Daintith

HERITAGE NO : 993
Ian Daintith played his only start for the first team in the 42 points to 14 away defeat against Wigan in April 1987. The Widnesian full back was a non-playing substitute in the home defeat to Castleford just two weeks earlier. He also played for Swinton and help set up the Dearne Valley ARLFC.

He signed a four year contract with the Saints in 1986. After several lengthy injuries it was agreed by mutual consent that in order to get his career back on track he should move away from the club. Ian then spent half a season in amateur rugby league with Farnworth ROB before signing for Swinton Lions in 1989 where he played both Second division and top flight under Jim Crellin and Chris O Sullivan. Ian continued with the Lions when the reins were passed on to Tony Barrow and Billy Benyon.

He made approximately 30 first team appearances for Swinton until again through injuries he was forced to retire at the age of 26. Ian then returned to the Farnworth amateur club as first team coach and helped guide the team to their first and only premiership title as well as several regional cup wins. After meeting his wife Andrea he moved to her home town in South Yorkshire and formed the Dearne Valley Bulldogs ARLFC.
