Cuthbert played his only game for the First Team in the War Emergency League home defeat to Halifax by 25 points to 13. He played at full back in this match. It was a time when the Saints, like most of the clubs who were still operating, could really have to scratch around to get a full team. Recorder, in the St. Helens Reporter, did give him a decent write up, however: “Cuthbert, the Saints new full-back was far and away the better kicker. Cuthbert’s shooting was excellent and in spite of the Saints’ defeat the full-back emerges with fair credit. He had no hope of stopping most of the tries, but his fielding and clearances were good and he tackled very well on occasions”. The match report also commented that he was a York player. Please note the date of birth is notional for our own statistical purposes. Can you help the SHS by supplying his first name, a photograph or any other personal or playing details?
