 HERITAGE NO : 277 James Cross by Alex Service James Cross was a back row forward, from Howard Street, Thatto Heath, who made 22 appearances for the Saints during his career, scoring a try. His first match was a First Round Lancashire Cup tie at home to Askam from Cumberland, which the Saints won 26-2. James was loose forward that day, with Beech and Durkin in the second row. His last game for the club was against Salford on 27th January 1923 at Knowsley Road. James was at loose forward once more, but the star of the match was Welsh stand-off George Lewis [brother Stan was at scrum half], who scored two tries and booted over four goals. We know that James was a Colliery Surface Worker. In 1939 James was living in Duke Street, St Helens. He died in his hometown in September 1952, aged 55.
