Sometimes known as John, he was a forward who played for the Saints from 1898 to 1901. He made his debut against Widnes in a 0-6 defeat in the first game of the 1898-99 season and his last match for the club was also against the same opponents. On 15th April 1901, Saints had to play against Widnes in a special play-off match at Warrington to decide who would end up with the dreaded wooden spoon. Both had twelve points apiece, although fortunately it was St. Helens who triumphed 3-0, with Cumbrian winger Bob Doherty getting the winning try.

Job made his First Team debut relatively late. He would have been approaching his late twenties then and it is thought that he may well have turned out for local rivals St. Helens Recreation beforehand. Players did tend to alternate between the two during their careers, so this is not uncommon. Job Chapman was born in St. Helens, which is backed up from the 1901 census. He lived in a house in Hope Street, next to Peter Street in the town centre that belonged to his in-laws. He was 30 years old and his wife Hannah was 26. His occupation is listed as a labourer at the Sheet Glassworks, which once again would suggest links with the famous Recs at some stage. In 1939 he was resident at 81 Hope Street, St Helens. Further research indicates that Job passed away at the age of 76 in June 1947 and is buried in the Town Cemetery. The entry on the website lists him as John however. His wife, Hannah died in 1950 also at the age of 76.
