 HERITAGE NO : 384 Jack Carr by Alex Service In January 1930, the Saints Committee signed JF Carr, the younger brother of the international threequarter Charlie Carr, of Barrow. Jack joined the Knowsley Road club from Rochdale Hornets for a '100 transfer fee. A joiner by trade, he stayed in Rochdale during the week and trained at the Athletic Grounds. Jack could fill in both centre and wing positions effectively and at various times he played in the First Team when the likes of Roy Hardgrave, Alf Ellaby and Billy Mercer were out of the side. His best season was in 1930-31 when he made 18 appearances including a last season run at right centre. Although he did have pace, Jack was not noted for his try-scoring feats, with just 3 tries in an overall total of 25 appearances as a Saint. Jack left Saints for Rochdale Hornets and outside rugby worked variously as a Joiner and later as a Motor Engineer. In 1939 he was living in Ashfield Road, Rochdale. Jack spent his remaining days in Rochdale and died there in June 1976, aged 70. | ||||
