The St.Helens Newspaper gives us some information about this particular player on 14th.January 1937: "With cup ties fast coming upon us, there has been considerable activity in the local transfer market. Saints set the ball rolling by transferring their second row forward John Butler to Keighley for a fee of £50. A native of Cumberland, Butler came to St.Helens at an early age and learned his rugby in the town. He has been playing trials with Keighley and convinced the Yorkshire club that he is entitled to a regular First Team place." |
