 HERITAGE NO : 898 Peter Birchall by Dave Dooley A tough hard-working front-row forward, Peter signed for Rochdale Hornets from Spotland Rangers in 1960. He appeared in the 1965 Lancashire Cup final against Warrington and had a brief stay at Bradford Northern in 1966, before moving back to the Athletic Grounds in 1967. He appeared for Hornets against Saints in the 1971 Floodlit Final, which St.Helens won 8-2. A Lancashire and England Under 24 prop forward, Peter had a spell at Knowsley Road on loan from Rochdale Hornets from November 1973. In this spell Peter played just one first team match. This particular contest was the away league match against Oldham on the 8th of December, 1973. Peter came on from the substitute`s bench but was unable to prevent the `Roughyeds` edging the contest by 12 points to 11. Sadly Peter passed away in May 2011 aged 69. |
