 HERITAGE NO : 466 Ted Beesley by Alex Service A local lad, Ted Beesley played for the Saints during one of their most traumatic periods, in the years before the outbreak of the Second World War. Ted made his debut against Widnes which was the first game played by the St.Helens club as a Limited Liability Company. A grafting second-rower or loose forward, he always reckoned one of the major disappointments of his career was not to appear on the same team-sheet as Alf Ellaby, when he returned for his second spell at Knowsley Road. Ted spent some time on loan at Leigh before joining Liverpool Stanley, where there was a large former St.Helens enclave. He also played at various times for Batley, Keighley and Leeds during the war years. Ted worked as a Wire Drawer Machinist and lived in Mulberry Avenue, St Helens in 1939. He passed away in February 1992, aged 73. | ||||
