|George Barker by Alex Service and Dave Dooley|
George was signed when he was living in Risca, South Wales. At that time the Saints plundered the valleys looking to revitalise their back line. George headed to Knowsley Road in the recruitment wave which snapped up fellow Welshmen Trevor West, Fred Cheshire and William Tellyn. A centre threequarter, he played in five matches for the club during the autumn of 1913. His first and last matches were against Runcorn. In his last match, he put winger Bert Roberts in for a hat-trick, in the home game against the Linnets, on 1st November 1913. The Collier returned to Wales after his spell with the Saints and was living in Springfield Road, Risca in 1939. His death is recorded in Newport in December 1973 at the age of 84. If anyone has any further details about this player, we would like to hear from you.
