 HERITAGE NO : 392 Philip Park by SHS There is little information available about this player. In the St.Helens Newspaper on 22nd February 1935, there is the following paragraph: "During the week Philip Park was transferred to Barrow. Park was signed several seasons ago by the Saints and he has played several brilliant games with the A Team. The difficulty has always been that of expense. Park is employed at Millom, Cumberland, and as the finances of the club stand, it was not considered wise to expend considerable expense on providing travelling facilities for an A Team game. Consequently, his recent appearances have been extremely rare." Barrow Historian Steve Andrews provides us with some other information about Philip. He was actually born in Dalton and was basically a Barrow `A` teamer for a couple of seasons, although he did make two senior appearances in 1936. In 1921 Philip was living in Queen Street, Millom. He lived with his parents John and Sarah, three brothers and three sisters. His father was a quarryman for the Millom Hematite Iron Company but at the time of the Census he was out of work. Philip was a Metal Turner Engineer by trade and in 1939 he was living in Orantes Avenue Barrow. He passed away at Millom in May 1991 at the grand old age of 91. | ||||
