Biography of Paul Brownbill

HERITAGE NO : 946
This prop forward played 11 matches for the Saints in the early 1980s. He had the great pleasure of playing against the invincible Kangaroos on their 1982 tour.

Dave Dooley

David Hodgkinson, in the St. Helens Reporter, gave an unusual slant to Paul's signing:

"St. Helens are still poised on the brink of big signing. But the club is saying nothing more than 'we have several irons in the fire'. This week, however, one player did sign on the dotted line. Folly Rangers giant prop Paul Brownbill, who lives in the shadow of the Salford ground, was taken from under the noses of Swinton who thought they had signed him. In fact, they had, but Paul had second thoughts and ripped up the forms". Saints' Secretary Geoff Sutcliffe said: "Paul signed this week and he hasn't torn them yet". Paul was 19, 6ft 2ins and weighed in at 16 stones.
