MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : It took just four minutes for Saints to open the scoring, Paige Travis with a good run down the left-hand side before rounding the fullback to score. Zoe Harris added the extras, 6-0. Our early lead was soon added too. From a scrum the ball found its way to Amy Hardcastle who beat a defender down the left and was not going to be caught with open field ahead of her. Harris was unable to convert, 10-0. We then had our third try in the opening ten minutes as Tara Jones picked the ball up from dummy half close to the half-way line, she then ran through a gap before rounding the Warrington fullback to score. Harris was unable to convert, 14-0. A fourth Saints try was added in the 20th minute. The Red Vee had overlaps down their left-hand side which allowed Beth Stott to throw a cut-out pass and Danielle Bush slid over in the corner. Harris was unable to convert, 18-0. The fifth Saints try followed. This time we worked the ball right which allowed Carrie Roberts to break a tackle before scoring in the corner. Stott was unable to convert, 22-0. Roberts had her second score of the afternoon soon after. Our number three refused to be tackled as she kept hold of the ball and ended her run by burrowing underneath the Wire defence from close range. Harris re-took the kicking duties and converted, 28-0.

Saints’ try of the game followed. Vicky Whitfield made a big run down the middle before breaking free, She then found Jodie Cunningham on her outside, who then found Rebecca Rotheram on her inside shoulder and she raced away to score under the sticks. Harris converted, 34-0. Saints scored two more tries to end the half strongly. Firstly, Saints had numbers over on their left-hand side again and as Warrington appeared to have wrapped up a tackle on Travis, she somehow offloaded the ball to Hardcastle who crossed for her second of the afternoon. Harris’ kick bounced out off the post, 38-0. The final score of the half came on the hooter. Saints won a penalty on Wire’s line and tapped it, Naomi Williams stretching over on the first tackle four our ninth and final try of the first half. Harris hit the post again, as Saints led 42-0 at the break.

Roberts then completed her hat-trick five minutes into the second half. A move down the right saw Cunningham find Roberts who raced away down the right wing to score. Stott missed the conversion, 46-0. Our number three then scored her fourth and final try of the game in the 50th minute. Once again the ball was worked out right and Roberts buried her way underneath the hosts’ defence to score. Harris missed the extras, 50-0. Saints’ twelfth and final try of the game came in the 72nd minute. Good work down their left edge saw Bush race away down the left wing to score. Harris was unable to convert, but Saints progressed in the Challenge Cup without conceding a point following a comfortable 54-0 over Warrington.
