Biography of Norman Hesketh



HERITAGE NO : 433
Norman was a stand off or centre who played for the Saints in two spells in the 1930s. Originally signed from Broughton Rangers, the Wiganer was a skilful player who scored 9 tries for the Saints including a brace in the 32 points to 3 whipping of Bramley. He was signed after a great debut against Oldham in April 1934. After a loan spell at Leigh [Heritage Number 438] he returned to the club in August 1938 for two games against Leigh and Warrington, before retiring. He worked as a Capstan Lathe Hand in an Aircraft Factory in 1939 and was living in Wallace Lane, Wigan. He died in Wigan in March 1982, aged 71.
