Biography of Kev Hyland

HERITAGE NO :
Kevin played for Blackbrook Royals as a junior. He came from a rugby league family with both his older brothers playing for the Saintas Academy. His father organised player testimonials at the club for such starlets as Harry Pinner, Roy Mathias and Chris Joynt.

1995 was a great year for Kevin. He not only met the girl whom he would latermarry but he also fulfilled a childhood dream signing for the Saints Academy, all at the tender age of 14. This followed a most successful performance at the Saints School of Excellence held that year in Lancaster. He had caught the eye of academy coach Nick Halafihi. For the next two years Kevin would travel with the team waiting for his sixteenth birthday and his saintly opportunity. He earned the nickname AJ from the team.

Kevin made my debut against Bradford at home which was doubly significant as it was also the first time he had played alongside his older brother Craig.Although the brothers shared the same surname, they we were very different on the field, most notably the fact that Craig possessed a nine inch height advantage. He played hooker and despite his small stature was known for his strong defence. After twoseasons with the Academy he accepted an A-team opportunity with Salford City Reds. In addition Kevin went to earn student international honours beforesuffering a knee injury in the home nations tournament. That setback brought a premature end to his promising rugby career.
