Henry Maudsley by Alex Service

A front row forward known as the Big Bear, Henry played two matches for the First Team during his career at Knowsley Road. His first was a really tough assignment at Headingley against Leeds on 10th November 1928. The Saints excelled themselves by coming back from Yorkshire with a share of the points in an 8-8 draw. The front row for that match was Maudsley, Harold Smith and Lou Houghton.

His final game for the club was at Swinton, 0n 24th November, when the homesters won 16-2. The front row on this occasion was Atkin, Smith and Maudesley. According to the Rugby League Registers, Henry resided at Weymouth Street in St.Helens. It is believed that he passed away in 1968 at the age of 63, but that has yet to be confirmed. If anyone has any information on this player, we would be grateful for any help received.
