BIOGRAPHY

William Barrow by Dave Dooley:
The Barrow family (Tony, Frank and Billy), alongside the Creeveys and the Cunninghams, hold the distinction of providing three brothers who have made first team appearances for the Saints. The Barrow family were men with the Rugby League in their blood!

Billy Barrow had an outstanding career as a schoolboy playing for Edmund Campion School (St Helens), St Helens Schoolboys, Lancashire and Great Britain. After signing for Saints in the late 1960s Billy played most matches for the Club in the 'A' team. Other hookers on the Saints' books on those days, when hooking was still a specialist skill, included the international stalwart Bill Sayer and the up and coming Tony Karalius.

Billy's only match for the first team came on the 15th. September 1970 in the home match against Halifax. Saints prevailed by 22 points to 7 in front of a crowd of 6000. Billy was joined on the field that day by his bother Frank. His props for the occasion were Cliff Watson and Ray Turner and a back three of Eric Chisnall, Eric Prescott and Kel Coslett!

He was later transferred to Leigh but suffered a freak accident at work which forced him to retire from the game.
